At Rothley Church of England Academy, we are committed to supporting the health, wellbeing and success of every child. We know that healthy children are happy learners, and that a nutritious lunch plays an important role in helping children concentrate, sustain their energy levels and achieve their very best throughout the school day.
As part of our commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles, we would like to remind families of our expectations regarding packed lunches and snacks brought into school.
What We Encourage
We ask that lunchboxes contain a healthy, balanced selection of foods, such as:
• Sandwiches, wraps, pasta, rice or other savoury options
• Fresh fruit and vegetables
• Yoghurt, cheese or other healthy snacks
• Water
What We Ask Families not to include
To help support children's health and wellbeing, please do not include the following items in lunchboxes:
• Sweets and confectionery
• Chocolate bars
• Fizzy drinks or energy drinks
• Large bags of crisps
• Sugary desserts and treats
• Foods containing nuts (to protect children with severe allergies)
Why This Matters
Research consistently shows that healthy eating supports children's concentration, behaviour, mood and academic achievement. By working together, we can help our pupils develop positive habits that contribute to both their physical health and their readiness to learn.
From September, we will be encouraging all children to bring a healthy lunchbox to school. Whilst we understand that occasional treats are part of family life, sweets, chocolate bars, confectionery and fizzy drinks should not be included in lunchboxes. Where these items are brought into school, staff may ask children to take them home at the end of the day.
