At Rothley C of E Academy, we believe that positive mental health and emotional wellbeing are fundamental to every child's happiness, development and success. As a nurturing Church of England school, we are committed to creating a safe, inclusive and caring environment where every child feels valued, supported and able to flourish.
We recognise that good mental health is just as important as good physical health. Children who feel emotionally secure are better able to engage in learning, build positive relationships, develop resilience and achieve their full potential. Our aim is to ensure that every member of our school community knows that it is okay to talk about their feelings and that support is always available when it is needed.
We are proud to take a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing. This means that promoting positive wellbeing is everyone's responsibility and is embedded throughout school life. Rather than being delivered through one programme or initiative, wellbeing is woven into our curriculum, our values, our relationships and our daily routines.
Through our PSHE curriculum, collective worship, classroom practice and wider school experiences, we help children to understand their emotions, develop healthy coping strategies, build positive relationships and grow in confidence and resilience. Our Christian vision encourages children to show compassion, kindness and respect for themselves and others, helping to create a school culture where everyone belongs.
Alongside universal support for all pupils, we recognise that some children may need additional help at different times in their lives. We offer a range of targeted interventions and pastoral support, including Emotional Literacy Support, sensory-based strategies, emotional wellbeing interventions and opportunities to develop positive friendships and social skills. We also work closely with families and external professionals, including the Mental Health Support Team (MHST), to ensure that children receive the right support at the right time.
Across the school, children have access to a variety of wellbeing initiatives that encourage them to recognise and manage their emotions. These include classroom wellbeing resources such as Zones of Regulation, Worry Monsters and Worry Boxes, sensory and wellbeing spaces, as well as opportunities to celebrate success, develop a sense of belonging through our House system and participate in lunchtime clubs that promote friendship, inclusion and confidence.
We know that supporting children's mental health is most effective when schools and families work together. We value our partnership with parents and carers and hope that the information on these pages will help you understand the support available, find useful resources and know where to seek help if you have concerns about your child's emotional wellbeing.
Together, we are committed to helping every child at Rothley C of E Academy feel safe, valued, resilient and ready to flourish.
